Fishing in Tamarindo
|
|
Excellent fishing year round
Tamarindo is located at the southern end of the shallow, plankton rich Papagayo Gulf on the northwest Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Tamarindo's close proximity to the continental shelf makes for a very short run time to the fishing grounds. Fishing is excellent year round and you can expect to catch roosterfish, snapper, wahoo, grouper, amberjack, mackeral, tuna, dorado, sailfish, marlin.
How to get there
Tamarindo has a national airport with 8 flights arriving daily from San Jose. The international airport is one hour away and is serviced three days a week by American Airlines, Continental and Delta.

Captain Warren's Billfish Adventure
Captain Warren Sellers charters out of Tamarindo in July through September. Join him to discover the ultimate thrill of hooking a hundred pound sail.
The challenge of fly fishing for sailfish is encouraged and Warren will provide a 13 wt outfit on request.
Tamarindo has been a fishing hot spot for many years, how better to experience it than with Warren as your captain.

The town
Tamarindo is a vibrant and multi cultural community. It offers over 35 restaurants as well as giftshops, art galleries, internet cafes, bakeries, etc. There are lots of activities like sailing, surfing, canopy tours, horseback riding and nature tours. For lodging we'd like to recommend Hotel Pasatiempo and Hotel Capitan Suizo. |

Top charter boats
Warren has selected the top charter boat captains in Tamarindo for you. All captains have extensive experience fishing Tamarindo, and comply with safety regulations. The charter rates are set by the boat owners so you will not find them cheaper elsewhere |
|
A day of fishing
Ice, bait, tackle, beverages and, on a full a day, lunches are included in the price. Generally a half day (around five hours) consists of inshore fishing for bottom fish and a full day (around nine hours) offshore fishing for billfish. Prices are per boat. |
Windy Season
From late December through April the winds are often extremely strong in Tamarindo, resulting in rough seas. For safety issues we do not book half day fishing charters during that time, nor do we offer boats under 31 ft. If it's windy on your day of fishing your captain will take you to a protected area (about 12 miles south). Half day charters do not allow enough time to travel to this protected area, fish and return to Tamarindo.
